Sometimes, during the beginning stages of treatment when light wires are used, the wire can break. If it is poking at you, you can put wax on it to make it feel better, until you can go see your orthodontist. If the wire isn't bothering you, then it depends on whether or not your teeth back where the wire broke are straight yet. If you are in the beginning stages of treatment, and your wire broke by the back teeth which are straight already, then you're probably ok waiting until your next appointment to get it fixed. If your teeth are still crooked back where the wire broke, that means your orthodontist was still trying to actively straighten your teeth, and you should probably go see your orthodontist to get it fixed.

Im no where near the early stages, in fact i could be considered done. I've gotten my braces off and they put wires in the back. One of them is broken, and by broken i mean completely gone. I think my next appointment is either in 2 years or never. So, i was just wondering if that wire is important and should i go in and get another one put it, or just leave it go.

I can't tell for sure exactly what the wire is for. Sometimes they put wires in after the braces to hold the teeth in place. If the wire was acting as a retainer, you should go back and have it put back in.

Hmm, I think you should go back to you dentist to settle this things. I'm sure he'll know what to do.. It's quite important I guess. Why, would your dentist bother to put that wire if its not important? Dental hygiene is really an essential part of life. We should not take it for granted.
