Is there side effects of getting your braces tightened faster than the time it normally takes? Can getting your braces off faster by getting them tightened faster make your teeth decay?
Thanks!!!!

Great question Amy! A lot of people want to get their braces off faster so they ask their orthodontist to put more pressure on their teeth, thinking their teeth will move faster.
The fact is that teeth do need a certain amount of force to move. However, putting more than the optimal force on the teeth may start damaging your teeth or surrounding bone or gum tissues. You can speak with your orthodontist about possibly speeding up treatment. Sometimes he/she may be able to speed things up, but other times he/she may say that more pressure may just be counterproductive.
To answer your question about getting more decay by increasing the "tightening," decay is cause by not brushing/flossing your teeth well, not "tightening." However, putting excessive pressure on your teeth can lead to your roots shortening faster. Hope this helps!

My braces we tightened quicker because I wanted them off for my wedding. Instead of it taking 14 month it took 7 months. Ever since my braces have been taken off, my teeth are decaying so FAST! I need so much work done to my mouth. I have 4 holes in four different teeth! And a cavity inside of my front tooth as well. I need 2 crowns. I just do not understand. I have never had problems like this before! I brush and floss the same as I always have. I brush twice a day. More when I had braces of course. I am 24 years old and my teeth are falling out of my mouth. Whats the deal???
I'm sorry to hear about your decay. The decay in your mouth should not have anything to do with you getting your braces off faster, though. If anything, taking the braces off sooner was probably better or else you may have had more decay. What you can do now is just brush and floss really well to prevent future decay. You can try rinsing with a fluoride mouthrinse such as ACT which you can get at your local drugstore. It helps to make your teeth stronger.
